Angel Matthews

Angel is a queer, neurodivergent illustrator and storyteller. He graduated from California College of the Arts with a BFA in Illustration in 2024, and is currently living and working in the Bay Area.

 

Angel’s illustrations use unusual imagery to express his joy and sadness about the world through surrealism and humor. His visual language is characterized by themes of death and childhood memories of growing up in the suburbs. The quirks that occur from working with pen and paper are a vital part of his artistic style. As such, all of his work is sketched and lined traditionally, then finished either digitally or in watercolor.
